Nel mondo, un bambino su 10 nasce prematuro, in particolare, nei Paesi Bassi, più di 15.000 bambini all'anno. Una piccola percentuale di loro nasce troppo presto, prima della 32esima settimana. Questo può avere un impatto importante sullo sviluppo fisico e cognitivo di un bambino. Il reparto di terapia intensiva neonatale dell'ospedale pediatrico Wilhelmina (WKZ) ad Utrecht è attivo nella ricerca per aiutare tutti i bambini con un inizio difficile. I genitori dei bambini possono praticare il contatto pelle a pelle con i bambini due volte al giorno per almeno 1 ora e mezza. Il bambino viene posizionato senza vestiti sul petto nudo della madre o del padre. Per questo motivo, il reparto deve disporre di sedie confortevoli. On the occasion of our wedding, we have decided to support a special project of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit of the Children's Hospital Wilhelmina in Utrecht (The Netherlands): the purchase of comfortable chairs for parents that want to perform the so-called "kangaroo care", the skin-to-skin contact moment between the premature child and the parents. Worldwide, 1 out of 10 babies are born prematurely, and in The Netherlands, more than 15000 per year. A small percentage is born too soon, before the 32nd week of gestation. This can have a major impact on a child's development. The neonatology department in the Wilhelmina Children's Hospital (WKZ) is there for all babies with a difficult start. The parents can do the skin-to-skin with their baby one or two times per day. The baby is positioned without clothes on the mother's or father's chest, therefore, the hospital needs to have available comfortable chairs. We hope that with our small contribution, more parents can benefit from this magical moment with their babies, born too soon.
